Star Wars: The Old Republic – New Companion Details

THE BUZZ: In their latest developers’ blog update BioWare has revealed new details regarding companions in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Originally, companions in The Old Republic were almost fully automated, leaving players free to control their own characters. Many fans, however, expressed a desire to have more input in how their companions acted and BioWare is obliging. The new details include:

  • Players may choose to disable some area-of-effect abilities when using crowd control or when fighting tough single enemies.
  • Players may activate special modes or stances for their companion, causing them to focus more on damage or tanking, or on a single target versus groups of enemies.
  • Players may want to manually activate buffs and powerful special abilities on long cooldowns, as opposed to letting the companion pick when to use their most powerful attacks.

EGM’s TAKE: BioWare is winning over a lot of fans over with The Old Republic and it’s beginning to gain a lot of momentum. But will it be enough to give World of Warcraft a run for its (considerably large amount of) money?

Has BioWare got enough to take on WOW? Leave your thoughts below.
