Starlink: Battle for Atlas‘ April 2019 update will basically complete the Switch version’s transformation into the current-gen Star Fox game we all know we want.

Nintendo announced during its recent February Direct that Ubisoft’s planned April 2019 update for the Switch version of the game will add new missions in which Team Star Fox will duke it out with Star Wolf’s lieutenants. The update will let players control Falco, Peppy, and Slippy, who will all come with their own special pilot abilities and skill trees. New missions seem like they will up Starlink‘s difficulty, and some even seem to feature Star Fox’s more linear level designs. You can also replay the entire game as these new characters, including the Fox missions that are specific to the Switch version of the game.

It’s unclear if players will have to purchase the rest of Team Star Fox, or if this will come as a free update, but considering Starlink is a toys-to-life game, we’d expect some sort of pay-to-play attachment with these new characters.

Starlink‘s most recent holiday update added new mission types, new enemies, and a Photo Mode to the open-galaxy space adventure. In addition to the Switch version, you can also check out the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, though you won’t see Fox McCloud’s face anywhere near the latter two versions.

Starlink’s April update will on Switch basically turn it into Star Fox

If Nintendo isn't going to give us a new Star Fox game, at least Ubisoft is basically doing just that with Starlink: Battle for Atlas.
