Steam Hits New Milestone: 5 Million Concurrent Users

THE BUZZ: So, have you heard of this thing called “Steam” that people are using on their personal computers? Seems like it’s popular.

In fact, Valve’s service hit a new high today: over 5 million people playing games via Steam at the same time. The previous mark—4 million concurrent users—was hit back in September.

EGM’s TAKE: For all of those who claimed PC gaming to be dead, it obviously isn’t. What was dead, instead, were outdated business models, and old-tech means of game distribution and production. Give players a powerful yet user-friendly means of buying and playing games, and they’ll do so.
