Ubisoft has shared a first look on the next DLC pack for its open-world winter sports game, Steep, and it looks like a pretty dramatic shift in tone from the base game.
The Winterfest DLC is set during a fictional sports festival of the same name, and it looks like a pretty zany addition to what struck me as a fairly straight-laced game. I mean, sure, you hurled yourself off of mountaintops in a wingsuit and recorded your most extreme bails to share with your friends, but you were providing the whole Jackass layer yourself against a backdrop of a fairly muted experience.
Now, though? You can dress up in a banana suit or an inflatable T. rex costume and hurl yourself down a double black diamond slope on a children’s sled. And that’s not an exaggeration, not even a little bit:
In addition to the out-there customization items and the introduction of sledding, Winterfest also brings 21 new challenges, at least a portion of which are centered around boss fights. It’ll be interesting to see exactly what that means in practice, but odds are good it’ll be more about racing against characters with defined personalities and not, like, wingsuiting into anyone’s glowing red weak point.
Steep‘s Winterfest DLC arrives May 3rd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re a season pass holder, it’ll be included at no extra cost. If not, it’ll cost you $11.99.
