Street Fighter III Online Edition won’t have DRM that forces you be online

Posted on August 9, 2011 AT 04:19pm

Some of Capcom’s previous PSN releases took an extra step in requiring that you always be online and signed in to PSN in order to play the game.

Unfortunately, not only has this been a hassle for some, but it was a hassle for everybody when PSN was down due to hacking a few months ago and those games became completely unplayable.

Thankfully, Capcom’s Christian Svensson confirmed that Capcom’s next big PSN release – Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition – won’t contain that extra layer of DRM.

Mention was made that this is being done for the benefit of playing the game at tournaments – where online access isn’t always guaranteed – so it’s unsure if this means that Capcom won’t be using that extra DRM at all in the future.
