Street Fighter V ‘still in early planning stages,’ no pay-to-win model

Posted on June 11, 2014 AT 05:23pm

Street Fighter series producer Yoshinori Ono took to Twitter to confirm that Street Fighter V will not use a pay-to-win business model, and that the game is still in the early planning stages.

According to a report by Japanese website Sports Nippon (translated by EventHubs), Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto said during an E3 interview that Street Fighter V would incorporate a “pay-for-advantage” system that would help prevent new players from being destroyed in online matches by veteran players.

“The SFV news today about a pay to win model is not accurate and isn’t something we’re planning for,” Ono wrote on Twitter. “Sorry for the confusion! We’re still in early planning stages and will share more at a later date.”

The report also stated that Capcom plans to add a feature that will allow users to spectate matches between high level players, and that the game is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One One, but is years away from release.
