Street Fighter X Tekken Devs Revive Obscure ‘The Rumble Fish’ Series

Dimps, the Osaka-based studio that’s co-developed many Street Fighter titles and headed up their own work with several Dragon Ball Z fighting games, is bringing back one of their most obscure franchises yet. The Rumble Fish, an arcade fighting series that made a brief appearance on the PlayStation, was recently purchased by the group, who now retains all the IP rights.

As Shoryuken notes, the two-game series was previously owned by Japanese pachinko company Sammy Corp., who then merged with Sega to recreate Sega Sammy Holdings. Since nothing has been done with The Rumble Fish since 2005, Sega Sammy sold the rights to the art, characters, and general assets back to Dimps.

As a result, Dimps has quickly put together a new website and made plans to start development on a new Rumble Fish title. Given that neither one was released outside of Japan, a port and HD update of the original titles would seem prudent.

Check out some footage of The Rumble Fish to see exactly what the gameplay was like. If Dimps has enough revenue to bankroll the purchase of a property like this, maybe a sequel (The Rumble Fish 3) could be heading to Japanese shelves soon.
