Street Fighter X Tekken Producer ‘Disappointed’ That DLC Character Got Unlocked Via Hacks

THE BUZZ: The saga of Street Fighter X Tekken and its on-disc DLC characters has been an interesting one—and today, producer Tomoaki Ayano expressed disappointment over what’s happened.
EGM’s TAKE: Speaking to GameSpot, Ayano said the following:
“Personally, I was really surprised when I heard the news that the characters had been hacked, basically. So I was pretty disappointed by that. I was really surprised at how skillful the hackers were, basically. But I was really kind of disappointed that it created this kind of environment where a bunch of players were playing the characters but a bunch were unable to play with them.”
So—I have two responses to this. First, I think consumers have gotten a little over-anxious in their attacks on Capcom for those DLC characters existing on the disc. I can totally understand why Capcom made the decision to do so, and actually think that—in the long run—it’ll be better for all players (as you won’t have to download a big DLC pack for characters you might not even buy).
On the other hand—when the characters do already exist on the disc, and people know that, of course they’re going to want to unlock them. If content exists on a disc that you sell to people, and you tell them, “You can’t have that content yet,” that’s only going to make people want said content even more.
