Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced Subnautica: Below Zero, a standalone expansion to underwater survival game Subnautica.
The expansion takes place “in a frigid, ice-bound region of Planet 4546B, some time after the events of the original game,” according to the developer.
An unfinished, early access version of Below Zero will be released on PC “in the coming months,” with plans to release consistent updates based on player feedback.
“The concept of Below Zero is still developing,” the developer added. “We are keeping the core gameplay mechanics, such as base building and open-ended exploration. We are also exploring new ones, such as thermal management, and more voiced dialogue at the core of the plot. We’re still in early stages and nothing is set in ice. These features may change prior to, and during, Early Access.”
Unknown Worlds noted that development of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Subnautica will not be affected by this new expansion.
