Super Mario Bros.: The Movie Returns to Theaters for 20th Anniversary Screening

Posted on May 5, 2013 AT 10:00am

The live-action adaptation Super Mario Bros. movie will be screened at the NuArt Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, May 24.

I fear this may be before some (if not most) of our readers’ time. Super Mario Bros.: The Movie was the first live-action videogame film adaptation, and set the standard for truly terrible films based on games. Personally, however, I feel that the Super Mario Bros. flick is so bad, so off point, that it’s actually goddamn good. Bob Hoskins (best known as Eddie Valiant from Who Framed Roger Rabbit) as Mario, John Leguizamo as Luigi, and Dennis Hopper (the villain in Speed) as King Koopa.

Tickets are available for purchase throughout the Landmark Theatres website. After the screening, production designer David L. Snyder (who worked on Demolition Man and Blade Runner) and screenwriter Parker Bennett will be taking questions during a Q&A.
