Super Mario Maker is getting new course-building items and a new 100 Mario Challenge difficulty, Nintendo announced in its latest Nintendo Direct.
Shaking a P switch on the Wii U gamepad will turn the item into a key. These can be used on key doors, which are accessible by shaking a regular door twice. Keys can be applied to enemies as well, requiring for players to defeat a foe before they can acquire a key.
Pink coins, an item exclusive to Super Mario Maker, will be acquired by shaking regular coins. When players collect every pink coin in a level, a key will appear.
Thwomps will also be convertible into skewers, the crushing platforms from Super Mario World.
A new Super Expert classification in the 100 Mario Challenge mode will allow players to take on six of the hardest Super Mario Maker levels, one after the other. Completing the trial will unlock some new mystery mushroom characters.
The Super Mario Maker update will be available for free on March 9th.
