Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS will bring back the franchise’s collectible trophies, but each platform will have its own unique set.
The news come courtesy of a daily update pushed to the official website and Sakurai’s Miiverse account, which featured the above image of a 3DS trophy for Saria from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, along with a brief explanatory note from game director Masahiro Sakurai.
“Each version will boast different types and models,” he explained. “The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.”
That same mentality seems to be reflected in many aspects of the game’s design. Sakurai noted at E3 that both versions of the game would feature exclusive levels designed to channel either Nintendo’s home console or handheld history, relative to the platform. In fact, the only thing that’s been confirmed so far to be identical across both releases is the roster of playable characters.
Super Smash Bros. is due out on the Wii U and 3DS sometime in 2014.
