Borderlands

In case anyone forgot, Take-Two Interactive has just reminded everyone that it has a “highly anticipated new title” in the works, and we’re pretty sure it’s Borderlands 3.

The studio made a big announcement informing us that Red Dead Redemption 2 finally has a release date (along with another delay), but that wasn’t the only important tidbit the company had to share. In a press release to investors, the company assured its supports that it expects “record Net Bookings and record net cash” for the year ahead, and not all of that will be from Red Dead Redemption 2.

While the release didn’t name names, it mentioned a new title from “one of 2K’s biggest franchises,” which will be released during the 2019 fiscal year. Take-Two hasn’t directly commented on what this game will be, but a job listing that went up in late 2017 was hiring people for an “unannounced AAA FPS/RPG hybrid with strong characters and central narrative thread,” which also emphasized “comedy writing with respect for a serious underlying plot.” So… a new Borderlands? It seems likely.

Whatever this project is, we may hear more news on it sooner rather than later, especially if Take-Two is expecting it to significantly impact its earnings for the next fiscal year. That gives us just over an actual year—in real time, not fiscal time—for a game to be released. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for any more updates.
