Borderlands

During a recent earnings report, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed that the 2019 fiscal year will see the release of a “highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises,” and we’re pretty sure it’s Borderlands 3.

If this statement sounds familiar, that’s probably because Zelnick made a similar statement last quarter when he said that we should expect a “huge new title from 2K” released during the 2019 fiscal year. Sure, a “new title” could be something other than Borderlands, like a completely original property.

However, this latest hint pretty much narrows it down to Borderlands 3.

First, Borderlands 3 has been “highly anticipated” ever since Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford pretty much announced the game back at PAX East 2016.

Second, Borderlands is easily “one of 2K’s biggest franchise.” The only other non-sports 2K series that can rival Borderlands in terms of popularity is BioShock, which seems to be much further off than a 2019 fiscal year release window, considering 2K just now seems to be hiring developers for it.

After all the retail leaks, job listings, and now this double-hint at a release window, we think it’s time for Gearbox or 2K to just freaking announce Borderlands 3 already.

Either way, when Borderlands 3 is finally announced, you can expect it to be riddled with microtransactions.

Michael Goroff has been gaming for almost three decades. He's a lover of all games and systems, but he mostly plays Xbox. That being said, if he's a fanboy, he's a fanboy for the game industry as a whole. Spit white-hot fanboy hate at him, trash talk his Gold II rank on Rocket League, or maybe just send him a cordial hello on Twitter @gogogoroff.

Take-Two teases Borderlands 3 release window, still won’t announce it

We all know exactly what game you're talking about, Strauss, so why not get it over with?
