THE BUZZ: Take-Two has trademarked GTA TV and Rockstar TV, which could hint at a wider cross-media promotion for Grand Theft Auto V.
The trademarks themselves are open to interpretation, with the listings mentioning:
“Computer game programs and software; animated motion picture films featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children’s and documentary themes; pre-recorded video discs and other pre-recorded digital and electronic media in the field of live action programs, motion pictures, or animation featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children’s and documentary themes.”
EGM’s TAKE: Could we be seeing some GTA themed TV programming or even a web series in the next few months leading up to the game’s release? This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen an advertising campaign like this, Ubisoft did it with Assassin’s Creed and EA with Dragon Age, both with major success. How would the team choose to go about it though, would they use live action or animation? Personally We feel that live action would be a bad move as it may cheapen the Grand Theft Auto universe down to a bad gang movie.
Rockstar recently revealed that they plan on offering new Grand Theft Auto V details in the next few months.
