Bandai Namco’s signature Tales RPG series will be adding a new chapter on mobile devices in Japan this spring, according to a report from Gematsu.
Tales of Asteria will bring together six of the series’ most popular protagonists—Cress (Phantasia), Lloyd (Symphonia), Luke (Abyss), Yuri (Vesperia), Sophie (Graces f), and Milla (Xillia)—as they attempt to save a world torn asunder over a wish-granting star.
The game will feature full voice acting and a new, tapping-based “cross-slide” combat system.
The question, now, is: What are the chances this will come over to North America? While iOS and Android devices are obviously very popular here, it would cost Bandai Namco time and money to work on localizing it. Plus, this process is already going on for Tales of Xillia 2 and Tales of Zestiria, so you wonder how high on the list of priorities localizing a mobile game is for them. And it wouldn’t be the first time North America missed out on a Tales release. But then again, having Asteria ready to complement the NA release of one of those other games might be a boon as well.
Obviously, time will tell if we ever see this on Western shores, but my bet would be that it’ll be a while, if ever. If you just need a new Tales fix, however, the teaser trailer is embedded below.
