Bandai Namco had previously only given a vague “winter 2014” as a release window for Tales of Hearts R, the enhanced PS Vita incarnation of a 2008 Japan-only DS title. On the series’ official Facebook page, a quote from Tales franchise producer Hideo Baba revealed (apparently too early, since the post was later deleted) that the game would be heading to Western markets in November. Bandai Namco has now confirmed a November 11th release date in North America, with Europe getting the title three days later on November 14th.
As the above screenshot illustrates, Tales of Hearts R is more in line with the recent 3D entries like Tales of Xillia and Tales of Graces f. That’s a change from the original DS version, the last entry in the series to feature a 2D battle system.
At E3, Bandai Namco confirmed that the game would feature the original Japanese voiceovers and include English subtitles. While the post-battle dialogue wasn’t subtitled for the E3 demo (which caused some concern among fans), the game’s localization producer assured me that those scenes will be subtitled in the retail version.
