Tapping Retro Studios a ‘High Priority’ for Future Metroid Games, Says Miyamoto

Posted on September 20, 2013 AT 02:07pm

Speaking to the U.K.’s Official Nintendo Magazine, Nintendo  game design legend Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned that Metroid Prime developer Retro Studios is chief among his picks to have handle future Metroid games.

“I definitely think it’s a franchise that we value and we certainly want to see what we can do with it in the future,” Miyamoto told Official Nintendo Magazine. “And, obviously, Retro is a very high priority in terms of the potential team that would be considered for working on a Metroid game.”

Miyamoto stated that he’s a big fan of their previous Metroid endeavors, the Prime trilogy. The last entry in that series was 2007′s Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for Wii. After that, the series was picked up by Ninja Gaiden maker Team Ninja, who developed 2010′s Metroid: Other M for Wii.

Miyamoto also offered praise for Retro’s current project, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which hits Wii U December 6.
