On the official PlayStation Blog, Arizona-based Team Colorblind showed off a new trailer for and talked more about the unique upcoming game Aztez.
Artist and combat designer Ben Ruiz describes Aztez as a “brutal, bloody, expressive, difficult, and repayable action game.” It’s also extremely stylish—looking, in some ways, like the spawn of a union between PlatinumGames’ MadWorld and Sony’s own Patapon.
Ruiz goes on to explain Aztez as being “two games” at it’s core: a real-time action game taking inspiration from titles like Bayonetta, Capcom’s Alien vs Predator arcade release, and Devil May Cry, mixed in with “empire management strategy” sections. Instead of just being a game about fighting enemies in stage after stage, Ruiz notes that Aztez feels more like a “randomized, historical Risk-like.”
“It might be an overly unusual combination, but the way we see it, it can’t be any worse than grabbing more ledges or pushing around more blocks,” says Ruiz. “And besides, if you do well in our strategy game, you might get to do some pretty profound history rewriting.”
While the Official PlayStation Blog of course talked about the date-to-still-be-set launch of Aztez on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, fear not other platform owners: beyond the 2014 PC release of the game, it’ll also be coming to Xbox One, Wii U, Mac, and Linux.
