Maybe it’s time to officially start worrying about The Last Guardian, after all. Team Ico’s Kenji Kaido is leaving the studio for greener pastures and a summer vacation, the developer revealed on his Twitter account today.
Kaido has been a critical member of the company, leading production of both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.
Hinting at a long break and potential new job, Kaido only had the following to say in a short update:
Reported. I retired from the SCE in this August. Plans for the future is still undecided, while I’m going to continue to summer vacation.
Development on the sequel to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus has been a giant question mark. Aside from various delays, Sony’s had little to say about the game’s progress, even forgetting to update their trademark for the title.
The Last Guardian was supposed to make an appearance at E3 2012, but nothing was seen by much of the gaming press or any of the public, not even in behind-closed-doors preview sessions.
Team Ico head Fumito Ueda also quite the company late in 2011.
Is it time for Sony to declare that The Last Guardian, one of their highest-anticipated PS3 exclusives, is dead?
