Team Ninja Went ‘Hands-On’ With Breasts To Develop Dead or Alive 5

One of the trademarks of the Dead or Alive series is the breast physics employed for the franchise’s female characters. For Dead or Alive 5, the team at Team Ninja literally went “hands-on” to make sure those physics were just right.

In an interesting interview with PlayStation Universe, Team Ninja producer Yosuke Hayashi admitted that members of the development team had put their hands to work studying “partners and other members of the Japanese studio” in order to make sure that Dead or Alive 5‘s breast physics would convey proper movement depending on the outfit the character is wearing.

When PSU asked how he would answer those who say that Dead or Alive 5‘s take on female characters is sexist, Hayashi responded that the team wants to create “the cutest chicks in video games”—a goal he believes DOA5 achieves.

I, uhm—hmm. I’m kind of torn on this. On one hand, the amount of ridiculousness and potential creepiness in all of this is just astounding. On the other hand, the Dead or Alive series has always been about fetishized female characters—and while I might not always agree with such things, I think there can be a place for games with such goals.
