The Homeworld IP has been saved, but not through teamPixel’s Kickstarter efforts—rather, by an unnamed winning bidder.

In the wake of THQ’s bankruptcy, many of their intellectual properties went on sale—including Homeworld. TeamPixel raised their bid money through Kickstarter, earning $58,644, but were ultimately outbid by an unnamed party.

Homeworld will escape the THQ bankruptcy to a new home, however, that home will not be with teamPixel, LLC,” the company wrote in an update on their Kickstarter page. “The auction for the Homeworld license ended April 15, 2013, and while we reached qualified bidder status for the bankruptcy auction, we were unable to raise the necessary funds to remain competitive against the other parties at the auction.”

As a result, teamPixel will begin refunding their Kickstarter backers, and as a special thanks, are offering to give backers a special credit in their upcoming space RTS game. Said game will be inspired by Homeworld, but will not take place in Homeworld’s universe.

TeamPixel says they expect the identify of Homeworld’s new owner to be announced mid-May.
