Tearaway Story Trailer Explores the Importance of Paper in Storytelling

In a new trailer for Media Molecule’s papercraft-inspired adventure game Tearaway, its developers chat about how the game is a story about stories.

Tearaway revolves around a character known as the Messenger, an entity with an envelope-like head who exists for one sole reason: to deliver the message contained within his (or her) noggin) to the player, who participates in the Tearaway world in god-like fashion through the Vita’s touchscreen, touchpad, and camera.

“The world is all about stories and all of these different stories that have been combined together, and this particular game is about going on your adventure and having your story,” lead creator Rex Crowle says in the video. “Paper is like the medium that stories are told with. They’re written down on paper—plane tickets they’re—all of these adventures we have in our own live sort of start off on pieces of paper.”

Tearaway launches exclusives for Sony’s PlayStation Vita on November 22 in North America and Europe, November 5 in Japan.
