In a few short months since its September announcement, Deception IV: Blood Ties has gone from a simple name resurrecting a presumed-dead niche franchise to a spectacular collection of brutal traps in motion. Tecmo Koei has released the first gameplay trailers, which reveal a title that looks like it’ll truly evoke the spirit of the series’ PS1 classics and its tradition of cornering the enemy…with gruesome results.
The trailer embedded below features a surly gentleman who can apparently survive a trip to the iron maiden—unfortunately for him, he’s not quite as adept as Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esq. when it comes to escaping this predicament. And this isn’t the only time you’ll be able to lure your opponent into a heinous situation. Deception IV allows players to string together trap combos, meaning that you can catch foes unaware and trick them into stepping into lethal Rube Goldberg–style contraptions.
The other two trailers are available at Tecmo Koei’s Japanese YouTube account. Deception IV: Blood Ties is confirmed for release in North America on the PS3 and Vita sometime in 2014, but Tecmo Koei’s mum on a release window outside of that.
