En Masse Entertainment has announced a seven day free trial for TERA to allow players to try before they buy.

No purchase is required to access the trial, all you need to do is sign up for a game account and then download the client. There are certain restrictions in place, such as chat and trade being disabled, and players are capped at level 23.

Free trials are a must in today’s heavily populated MMO market. Forcing players to pay a month up front just to try a game is ridiculous. Star Wars: The Old Republic tried this take for a while, before switching to free weekend events. Until eventually announcing the intention to have its own free trial period starting next month.

An MMO like TERA, that attempts to break the mold, needs a trial to show players how it is different and give them a chance to test the unique combat system.
