Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura took to the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu to touch upon some of Sora?s new powers as seen in the recent gameplay trailer shown during the D23 Expo in Japan.
According to Nomura (translation courtesy of Kotaku), Kingdom Hearts III will feature Keyblade Transformations depending on the Keyblade equipped. In the video shown during D23, Sora?s Keyblade could be seen transforming into a pair of handguns. Kingdom Hearts III will also feature an ?evolution? of the Free Flow mechanic from Dream Drop Distance called Attraction Flow, which is related to the Disney park attractions seen in the video (the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride and the Main Street Electrical Parade). As demonstrated in the video, Attraction Flow allows Sora and his co-combatants to ride on these Disney attractions while attacking enemies. Which attraction is summoned depends on the type of enemy and location.
?This is the first gameplay footage of Kingdom Hearts III that we?ve released, but [Kingdom Hearts III] is still nowhere near a state that the staff is satisfied with, so we?re going to continue to strive [to] improve the quality,? Nomura wrote in recent Weekly Famitsu (translated by Kotaku).
In reality, Kingdom Hearts III is a long ways out. I would be surprised if it saw release before 2016, since Nomura?s first priority right now is wrapping up Final Fantasy XV. Both games are headed to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but have yet to receive a formal release date let alone release window.
