TGS 2012: Come See The Brand-New PlayStation 3 Slim Up-Close
Posted on September 18, 2012 AT 09:55pm
Sony’s official PlayStation Blog has released photos of the new PS3 Slim, which will be available worldwide in a matter of weeks. As shown in the images, it’s a thinner, sleeker, more curved machine than before.
It’s impressive that even this late into the PlayStation 3′s lifecycle, Sony is still attempting to pick up new buyers with more and more refined models like this one.
Here’s the word straight from their blog about the new machine:
The new PS3 will be available in two different models, with 250GB and 500GB HDDs which will allow you to store even more of your digital life. It also features a smaller, streamlined design that will look great as part of any entertainment system. The new model is approximately 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3.
Nothing has been said about the new PS3 Slim’s other features yet, but like most recent SKUs, it isn’t backwards compatible with any of your PlayStation 2 or (most) PS1 titles.
UPDATE: As pointed out in the comments, recent PlayStation 3 models are compatible with some PS1 titles. But not all.
Check out the images below to see various parts of the gaming system up close. For those of you who don’t own a PS3 console yet, is this new design going to be enough to change your mind—or will you wait for the PlayStation 4?
