The Blue-Striped Kratos That Could Have Been

Before David Jaffe and the crew at SCE Santa Monica first debuted Kratos, apparently the Spartan warrior sported blue stripes that made him look a little too much like Diablo II’s Barbarian.

On his personal blog, David Jaffe says that “literally days before we announced the first game to the press,” Kratos looked Smurf-y. Then, someone on the dev team showed him a photo of the Barbarian from Diablo II (also below, for comparison).

Kratos was quickly changed to rock the blood-red look he’s known for. And probably for the best, too, since I think all the actual blood Kratos is often covered in would clash with blueish/purple stripes.
