The Bureau Producers Talk Origins, Game Mechanics in New Behind-the-Scenes Video

A new behind-the-scenes video for The Bureau: XCOM Declassified explores the game’s evolution from first-person shooter to third-person tactical shooter and other aspects of its gameplay mechanics.

In the video (embedded below), 2K Marin executive producer Alyssa Finley and 2K senior producer Nico Bihary discuss The Bureau‘s setting and location, the origins of Battle Focus, the impact of permadeath, and how the game demands skill and planning from players.

“Over the course of development, we started in first-person, and then we kept iterating towards trying to make sure that the parts of the game that were working were working better and better, and the parts that weren’t working we were willing to change,” Finley says in the video. “It was really a journey from that first-person view of the game that we showed in 2010 to the first third-person hybrid that we showed in 2011, where you can see the beginnings of what we call Battle Focus now.”

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified launches on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 August 20 in North America, August 23 in Europe.
