CD Projekt Red might be planning to bring multiplayer to Cyberpunk 2077.
While the developers of the game have confirmed that the game will be single-player only at launch, quest designer Patrick Mills revealed at E3 that the team is “maybe” looking into adding multiplayer to the game later. Now, CD Projekt’s website hints that the team has gone from just considering multiplayer to hiring experts to add it in.
The careers page shows that CD Projekt is hiring both a network programmer and a senior technology Programmer to work on Cyberpunk 2077, and the descriptions are pretty telling. The network programmer will work on “helping in design and implementation of multiplayer changes to existing systems,” while the technology programmer will help with “design and implementation of new game’s subsystems” and “cooperating with engine programmers to design systems.”
A third job on the page is outright asking for a multiplayer designer, who would concentrate on “designing, setting up and tuning of multiplayer systems from high concept to implementation” and “proposing innovative and fun design that’s within the game’s vision.” This position isn’t tagged with the Cyberpunk 2077 label like the other two, but it proves that CD Projekt is taking multiplayer seriously for future games.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
