Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have announced that The Division 2’s fourth specialization, the Gunner, will be released later this month as part of Title Update 4.
“Joining the fight together with the other Specialists, The Gunner is equipped with the powerful Minigun, which will be a force to be reckoned with on the streets of Washington, D.C.,” Ubisoft explains. “With an emphasis on sustained damage output and damage resilience, the Gunner will serve as the vanguard of SHD Agents in the ongoing fight to reclaim the city.”

The Gunner will receive bonus armor based on how much specialization ammo they are carrying while using the signature minigun weapon. However, the Gunner cannot enter cover, vault, or roll while the minigun is drawn. The class also has access to a Riot Foam grenade and the Banshee Signature Skill, which forces enemies to leave cover by confusing them.
To unlock this new class, players are going to have to complete Special Field Research, which involves five stages of in-game challenges that each have their own objects and rewards. After completing all five stages, players will gain access to the Gunner. However, owners of the Year 1 Pass can skip all this and get instant access to the Gunner. Year 1 Pass holders can still complete the Special Field Research missions if they wish to unlock additional, exclusive rewards including:
- Fisticuffs and Front Flex emotes
- Charcoal and Detritus gear dyes
- Rosethorn and Pineapple weapon skins
- The Gunner mask and the Gunner specialization uniform
The Gunner will arrive on live servers some time this month with Title Update 4, but PC players won’t have to wait until then, as the specialization will be available on the game’s Public Test Server from tomorrow, June 4th. PTS players won’t have to complete the Special Field Research to access the class, but the challenges will be available.
In other news, Ubisoft pushed a new update live for The Division 2 earlier today that fixed the armor exploit.
