It looks like Massive Entertainment, the developer of The Division, may be the next studio to jump aboard the battle royale train.
Game Reactor is reporting that an anonymous source inside the studio has revealed that the team is currently working on something battle royale related. However, it’s unknown if this will be a standalone game or an addition to either The Division or its sequel.
According to the source, Ubisoft asked Massive to look into the battle royale genre back in January and the studio has since told Ubisoft that it could create something in a short amount of time due to its work on The Division, which already contains a survival mode.
We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of this.
Last month, Ubisoft officially announced Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. The sequel is being developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Ubisoft Reflections, Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Annecy, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Bucharest, and will be powered by an updated version of the Snowdrop engine.
