Focus Home Interactive has released a 14-minute gameplay video for Deck 13’s upcoming sci-fi action role-playing game The Surge.

The footage below is narrated by game designer Adam Hetenyi and shows protagonist Warren exploring the dystopian environments of CREO’s mysterious industrial and RND complex, the Abandoned Laboratories.

“Fitted with an industrial exoskeleton, you must fight your way through CREO, equipping the spoils of combat to your suit,” publisher Focus Home explains. “Armor and weapons are looted from enemies after duels, in which you will take advantage of The Surge’s unique limb-targeting system to attack and cut off parts of the enemy you want to equip or craft.

During combat, players will be able to attack both armored and non-armored body parts. Attacking an armored body part deals less damage, but offers an opportunity to deal a finishing blow that will sever the part. This part can then be used to upgrade Warren’s exosuit or be scrapped for materials.

The Surge launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in May.
