The Witcher 3 on Xbox 360 or PS3 would be ‘impossible’

Posted on January 23, 2014 AT 05:03am

Polish developer CD Projekt Red has ruled out a release for its upcoming open-world RPG on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, stating that it would be impossible.

“It’s impossible. It would have to be a different game–a smaller game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with sacrifices in graphics,” CEO Marcin Iwinskitold MCV India in a recent interview.

Iwinski added that the difference between the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC versions of the game is “not huge,” as the new consoles are “actually brand new PCs.”

“So I think gamers on each platform will get an extremely good experience and they should be very satisfied with the quality,” he stated.

Finally, Iwinski put the rumors of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings making the jump to PlayStation 3 to bed, stating, “We definitely would have loved to, but The Witcher 2 on PC was so big that making it work on Xbox 360 took us a year. The Xbox 360 was a more powerful and easier-to-code-on platform than PS3, so that would have taken us another year or year-and-a-half.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to release later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
