The first episode of Telltale Games’ Fables prequel, The Wolf Among Us, will launch on Xbox 360, Windows PC, and Mac OS X this Friday, October 11, according to Microsoft’s Major Nelson.

No release date has been given for the PlayStation 3 version, but its “expected to be just a few days after the initial Xbox 360 and PC releases go live.”

Set in a pre-Giuliani New York in the 1980s, players take on the role of Bigby Wolf, the human form of the Big Bad Wolf of Aesop’s Fables and Grimm’s Fairy Tales fame. The central storyline follows Bigby’s investigation into the murder of a mysterious woman, but the Fabletown sheriff is also tasked with keeping the fairy tale population from being detected by “mundies” (that is to say, regular humans).

Created by writer Bill Willingham, Fables has won fourteen Eisner Awards.

The first episode, titled “Faith,” is priced $4.99. A season patch that nets access to all five season one episodes will be available for $14.99.
