Square Enix Hints (Again) At World Ends With You Sequel, Calls For Actors

Posted on September 1, 2012 AT 04:25pm

It looks like the recent fervor over The World Ends With You isn’t over just yet. Seen at the end of the iOS re-release, Solo Remix, the image above hints at a new character and a new “game” in the series.

For the uninitiated, the plot of TWEWY revolves around “Players” trapped in an alternate dimension, forced to play ”games” by a shadowy organization known as the Reapers.

In the course of the original game, main character Neku and his four friends survive seven days against the Reapers, so the character in the teaser artwork above seems to be a new protagonist.

Brian Gray, a video game translator with inside knowledge of the situation, has also relayed news that Square Enix is hosting a contest for new “vocalists” for The World Ends With You:

It’s probably a bit hasty to jump the gun yet again, but if Square Enix is issuing an open call for new voice actors, one must think that those actors will be voicing new characters. New characters means new content, which likely means that The World Ends With You is getting some sort of sequel treatment.

Hopefully, it’s a full-fledged game, and not an episodic update or something more minor. We’ll keep our ears perked.
