Game Informer’s April 2013 cover story has outed Thief 4, now rebranded as just “Thief.”
“We’re handling a precious gemstone with Thief,” said Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D’Astous in the press release announcing Thief. “Fans remember the original games very fondly and we want to preserve that essence which we have excellent experience of doing at Eidos Montreal, whilst also introducing Thief to a brand new, next-generation, audience. Our goal is to deliver the fantasy of being Garrett, the master thief, and we’re building this game around that core experience.”
The new Thief title is expected to release in 2014 on PS4, PC and other next-generation consoles (read: whatever Microsoft ends up calling the next Xbox, perhaps Valve’s Steam Box).
Thief is being developed by Eidos Montreal, the studio responsible for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and published by Square Enix.
Leaked screenshots and concept art for Thief can be found on Russian website GamesManiac.
