Welcome to the inaugural edition of EGM’s weekly wrap up. Each Friday, we’ll be rounding up the week’s biggest news stories and some of the smaller but still interesting developments that may have flown under the radar, all in one convenient place for you, our dear readers. Be sure to check back in the weeks to come, and feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you like and dislike about the format as we fine-tune this new feature.

This Week’s Top Stories

Blizzard finally added Doomfist to Overwatch. He’s playable on the game’s PC-exclusive public test region, but he should be coming to every format sometime next week.

Halo fans also had a good week. In addition to the announcement that Halo 5: Guardians is getting a 4K update for Xbox One X, 343 also dropped the bomb that Halo 3Halo 3: ODSTHalo 4, and Halo: CE Anniversary will be coming to Xbox One’s backward compatibility program.

Nintendo announced its plans to launch the Switch’s online service—aptly named Nintendo Switch Online—with Splatoon 2 on July 21stSplatoon 2 will be getting a special set of features within the app called SplatNet 2, which will allow players to track their stats and progress.

Horizon Zero Dawn got a massive update that added a New Game+ option and a new “Ultra Hard” difficulty, plus two new trophies and the option to add facepoint to Aloy and change her focus.

PlayStation was busted using Xbox One X footage of BioWare’s Anthem on its YouTube page and superimposing its own buttons over the Xbox controller buttons.

Fresh off the release of its first DLC, Nintendo released the first footage of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s next DLC, The Champion’s Ballad.

Creative Assembly announced Total War Saga, its first game in a planned spin-off series that will focus on pivotal moments in history instead of entire historical eras.

EA Access and Origin Access are adding all the Star Wars Battlefront expansions currently available, and Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 will join their Vault programs sometime this summer for a limited time.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds guaranteed the game would be out of early access in six months, unlike its spiritual predecessors DayZ and H1Z1. The very next day, however, he was forced to walk back that claim in what might be the quickest delay in video game history.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 6 was announced… and then cancelled the same day.

In Other News…

The throwback point-and-click adventure game Thimbleweed Park is being ported to the Nintendo Switch, complete with handy-dandy touchscreen controls.

Shovel Knight and Shantae are coming to Blaster Master Zero, because somehow we’re still not sick of those characters or that game.

An assassination plot against newly elected French president Emmanuel Macron was foiled when the would-be assailant inquired about buying an assault rifle on a video game forum.

The player with the highest Xbox Gamerscore for 11 years finally lost his title while on his honeymoon. His response? “I’ve been too busy having all the sex.”

The third issue of Half-Life: A Place in the West—an officially licensed, fan-made comic series—was announced, giving fools like us irrational hope that we might get to play Half-Life 3 before we die.

Someone hacked the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES game to make each of the four turtles more specialized, adding a much needed upgrade to an almost 30-year-old game.

For Honor is launching its first official Duels tournament, Hero Series, this summer for Xbox One, PS4, and PC players, offering a $10,000 to be split between the winners.

Princess is Money Hungry is coming to the West as Penny-Punching Princess in March 2018 on PS Vita and Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo is showcasing a playable demo of Monster Hunter XX on the Switch at the Japan Expo in France, even though a western release hasn’t been announced yet.

And, just in case you were thinking that the world is a good place for some reason, a grown man stole a 6-year-old surgical patient’s Nintendo Switch, which his parents bought from him to get him through the stressful experience.

Spit white-hot fanboy hate at him, trash talk his Gold II rank on Rocket League, or maybe just send him a cordial hello on Twitter @gogogoroff.
