THQ Consolidation Continues, Publisher Closes Arizona QA Office
Posted on July 20, 2012 AT 01:45pm
Perhaps no company this year has undergone as much restructuring as THQ has without closing. After posting huge losses in profits and revenue, the publisher has had to cancel many projects, layoff several employees, and essentially adjust their entire operational budget for the rest of the company’s future.
THQ’s interior changes continue with the closing of their quality assurance center in Arizona, as all QA-related operations will now be moved to THQ Montreal. THQ Montreal’s studio in Canada is currently benefitting from a gaming industry boom, which helped prompt the decision.
THQ sent a statement to Game Informer regarding the news:
As part of this reorganization, THQ has notified 57 affected employees (full and part-time) at our QA facility in Phoenix. Some of the affected QA employees are eligible and may choose to relocate to Montreal; however the final number is not known at this time and will depend on a number of factors. The decision to move QA operations was driven by industry, market and economic trends.
Release dates for upcoming THQ games like WWE ’13, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Metro: Last Light reportedly won’t be affected, even though the process will take the company “the remainder” of 2012. While THQ still operates a main office in Agoura Hills, this move relegates most of their manpower in Canada, Illinois, and Texas
