THQ today (via IGN) revealed screenshots and cover art for the next game in their series of wrestling titles based around the WWE. The game also comes with a big surprise: a total name change for the franchise.
Previously titled SmackDown vs. Raw, THQ’s series will now simply be titled according to the year, with the first of these releases being WWE ’12. I can imagine two reasons for this change: first, to make the series feel more like the other annual sports titles, and also because the new name helps to cover everything in the WWE universe (versus just their two flagship shows).
Otherwise, for good or bad, the series will still be developed by Yuke’s, but will come along with a number of other updates and revisions. For example, it sounds like the team is trying to address issues players had with previous versions, such as fixing stiff animations and making gameplay feel more fluid.
WWE ’12 will hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii on November 22nd. For the full gallery of new screenshots, check out IGN’s reveal article for WWE ’12.
