Three animated short films set in the Borderlands universe will go live on YouTube next month, Gearbox Software announced today.

The shorts were born out of 2K, Gearbox, and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco’s Borderlands Cooperative, a student-driven project that initially aimed to create one short film, but because of large interest in the project, was restructured to three short films. Two of the students who worked on the project were brought on as summer interns at 2K, with one of them gaining full-time employment at the publisher.

You can check out a preview of one of the shorts, titled “Bride of Frankentrap,” below. The episode, conceived and storyboarded by Leslie Harwood, revolves around Claptrap’s emotional anguish at being the last of his kind, unable to find true love.

More information about the Borderlands Cooperative can be found on the project’s official Facebook page.
