Three more beloved Nintendo characters are headed to Mario Tennis Aces.
This fall, we’ll be seeing Diddy Kong, Birdo, and Koopa Paratroopa arrive, all of them as free playable characters. Like Koopa Troopa and Blooper, these characters will be unlocked a month early for fans who participate in online tournaments, though everyone will eventually be able to get them by waiting a little longer.

Nintendo didn’t give the exact dates these new characters will appear. However, we know that Koopa Troopa will be unlocked in July (August for those who don’t play online) and Blooper in August (September). It seems likely that these next three characters will follow a similar pattern and release in September, October, and November. Whether or not you choose to play online and unlock them early, the characters will arrive for free in a series of software updates.
Patch 1.1.1 recently arrived in Mario Tennis Aces, adding a Rating feature to the game. Ratings scores are set to go live on July 1st, and will let players’ scores go up and down as they lose points, with points gained or lost helping to determine future matchmaking. The patch also made a few adjustments to missions in Adventure mode, and fixed a few bugs in online tournaments.
Mario Tennis Aces is currently out on Nintendo Switch.
