Evolve‘s four-humans-on-one-badass-alien multiplayer centers around specialization, with humans able to occupy four different character classes. Each role, however, can be filled by a number of different characters with their own special gear and personalities. On Tuesday, we learned about one of the assaults, Markov. Joining him will be support Hank, trapper Griffin, and medic Val.
Hank’s equipment is geared towards improving the efficacy of his allies. He’s got a shield gun that allows him to make teammates temporarily invulnerable, an offensive laser cutter, and the ability to call in a wide-area orbital barrage. As a support, Hank will also have access to a class ability that lets him completely cloak himself and anyone nearby. He also has a bushy beard, but it’s unclear what if any advantage it will confer during gameplay.
Griffin’s trapper class is focused on detection and containment. His equipment includes a harpoon gun for tethering the alien, sound spikes that alter the team when it gets close, and a submachine gun for doing offensive damage. All trappers, Griffin included, will also have an ability known as mobile arena, which produces a large bubble field that traps anything inside, be it ally or enemy.
Finally, Val’s filling the traditional medic role, with a Medgun that allows for long-ranged healing and a class ability that gives an immediate and sizeable health boost to nearby teammates. She’s also got a few assets that set her apart from the traditional healer, though, like a tranquilizer rifle that slows and tracks the alien and an anti-material rifle that can increase damage vulnerability of whatever specific body part it hits.
Expect to hear much more about the other characters who will be filling out these class roles—as well as the various alien monsters players will be able to take control of—in the months leading up to Evolve‘s fall launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
