Double Fine has kicked off a Kickstarter for their latest project Massive Chalice, a fantasy-themed tactical strategy game.

Double Fine’s Tim Schafer teased the announcement yesterday on Twitter, saying,”Excited about announcing something new tomorrow! Not a sequel or a port. Something NEW. I might even put on new underwear.”

Heading development on the project is Brad Muir, creator of the 2011 tower defense/third-person shooter hybrid Iron Brigade. Inspired by the likes of XCOM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, Massive Chalice‘s main hook is its multi-generational narrative, ins which players will watch their heroes grow old, die, and have their mantles taken up by a new generation of warriors.

Massive Chalice marks Double Fine’s second Kickstarter initiative, following the successful crowdfunding of their upcoming adventure game Broken Age.

The developer aims to launch Massive Chalice on Windows PC, Mac, and Linux by September 2014.
