Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall won’t contain microtransactions, nor will it launch with day-one DLC.
Talking to GameSpot, producer Drew McCoy made it clear that despite the hybrid nature of their game—which blends the single-player campaign experience with seamless, immersive multiplayer—the company has no interesting in chipping away at consumers with lots of little purchases or embracing the only economy models utilized in other online-centric titles.
“We want to make sure people understand we’re not going to nick-and-dime you with micro transactions, and we don’t expect you to buy a game, put it in your console, and the first day get asked to spend more money for more content,” McCoy told GameSpot. “What you get on the disc is what you bought, and that’s how we’re going to do it.”
McCoy did intimate, however, that Respawn has post-launch content planned for Titanfall—which, really, shouldn’t come as a surprise. Unsurprisingly, the producer remained tight lighted on that topic.
Respawn Entertainment’s debut game was unveiled Monday, during Microsoft’s pre-E3 press conference. Titanfall is a multiplayer-centric first-person shooter in which players control Pilots who can summon Titans—20-foot mech suits—to battle in the battered landscapes of a colonized world at war.
Titanfall launches on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC spring 2014.
