THE BUZZ: When creative director David Sears left in the middle of development of the highly anticipated Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots, many fans were worried his creative vision would not make it through to the final cut of the game. Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat is here to quell to any doubts that Sear’s ideas would be tampered with. In an interview with Game Informer, Mallat said his team is, ”evolving the vision that came from David’s initial input.” Reminding us that Sears left on good terms, and if that wasn’t proof enough David Sears himself released a statement saying:
“I’ve watched the forum comments, and one of the things that’s really important for everyone to understand is senior management and the editorial group challenged me to create something plausible, relevant, and that touches on the current fears of the U.S. citizens to the point that I was almost surprised myself we were taking these creative risks. They are still behind it. I spent time working on it because I love it, but there comes a point where you give the vision to everybody and they embrace it and start telling me what the vision is now.”
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots is scheduled for a 2013 release date.
EGM’s TAKE: The original target trailer that released turned so many heads, Ubisoft found itself against a lot of pressure for a game that could have easily fallen through the cracks. What made that target trailer so exciting was the tonal shift and intricate detail that most big name action games gloss over. Rainbow Six has been a franchise that’s easy to appreciate, but can be trying to get into, although high polish can convince even the most casual of gamers to give something a try. Hopefully with Rainbow Six: Patriots, Ubisoft can find that sweet spot.
