Tomb Raider 15th Anniversary digital art exhibition launches

Posted on October 4, 2011 AT 01:37pm

THE BUZZ: In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Tomb Raider franchise, Crystal Dynamics today launched a digital art exhibition in honor of the series.

The adventures of the globe-trotting heroine Lara Croft originally launched on the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in October of 1996, and since then, Lara has become one of the best-known names in gaming (and well as becoming a character seen in movies and other forms of popular entertainment).

In honor of the franchise’s anniversary, Crystal Dynamics has commissioned eight original pieces of art to be done by “esteemed artists”. These pieces will be based on the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, and the new vision for Lara that the company has.

The first art piece—one created by Tomb Raider comic series artist Andy Park—has been revealed today, and throughout October, the remaining seven pieces of art will be unlocked. At the end of the month, a limited selection of T-shirts and posters will go up for sale through The Nerd Machine, with a portion of the proceeds going to Child’s Play.

EGM’s TAKE: Being a huge fan of the new look and direction for Lara Craft coming from the Tomb Raider reboot, I won’t at all complain about getting a selection of commissioned art pieces based on that version of the character!

However, I’m a little disturbed by the fact that the original Tomb Raider came out 15 years ago—where in the world has the time gone?!
