A Tomb Raider comic that follows the events of the game will also serve as a narrative bridge for the unannounced sequel, writer Gail Simone revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.
According to Simone (best known for her work on Birds of Prey), the comic is set “just a few weeks after the end of the game.” The famed comic book scribe says the tie-in comic will be canonical and will “lead DIRECTLY into the sequel. This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history.”
Despite impressive sales figures and accomplishments—including earning the most week-one sales for a Tomb Raider title—Crystal Dynamics’ reboot failed to meet Square Enix’s lofty expectations. In April, the title had moved 3.4 million units. Square Enix hoped the new Tomb Raider would sell at least 5-6 million.
Neither Crystal Dynamics nor Square Enix have officially announced a proper sequel to what critics seem to universally agree is really good game.
