Nintendo has announced that its quirky 3DS social sim Tomodachi Life will be coming to North America and Europe on June 6.
This marks the first time the franchise will see release in the West, though it’s been a hit in Japan since the first entry hit the DS back in 2009.
The basic concept is a simple one: You populate an island with Miis, then watch the hijinks that ensue as they interact with each other. You can import your already designed Miis, those of people you’ve StreetPassed, or just create a bunch of new ones from scratch. Then you design a custom synthesized voice and assign each one a personality by tweaking a series of sliders. After that, it’s basically a human ant farm, with hints of The Sims and Animal Crossing but a flavor all its own.
If that sounds boring to you, trust me when I say you’ll want to watch today’s utterly insane 10-minute, all Tomodachi Nintendo Direct video up there. I’m almost certain you’ll be convinced within a few bizarre seconds. There are shots of a Virtual Boy–worshipping cult, a love triangle between Samus Aran and three Nintendo execs, and Mii Reggie glaring into the camera and saying “My body is ready,” in the creepiest robot voice imaginable.
My body is ready, too, Reggie.
