Rise of the Triad developer Interceptor Entertainment and Duke Nukem creator 3D Realms today revealed Bombshell, a top-down action-RPG coming to PC and PS4 next year.
Originally titled Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction, the continuing lawsuit between 3D Realms and Gearbox Software over ownership of Duke Nukem IP rights spurred the companies continue production by outfitting Mass Destruction with a new main character—Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison—and as an original IP. The companies teased the rebranded action-RPG last month.
Bombshell, as her name somewhat communicates beneath a fine layer of overt sexualization, is a former bomb disposal specialist turned PMC soldier. After losing her arm in a “violent and explosive act” referred to as “the Washington Incident,” Bombshell joined a private military contractor outfit in exchange for a new robotic arm and the opportunity to seek revenge.
According to the official website, Bombshell will span four planets, including the “dying world of Kyrron” and “the secrets of a civilization frozen in time on the distant world of Zeroth.” Bombshell herself can be powered up with over 10 weaponized robotic arm modifications and will wield “a never-before-seen arsenal of devastating weaponry.”
Bombshell is expected to launch on PC and PS4 early 2015, within Q1.
